Weekly Recap #12

Not much going on this week. I have another appointment with Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery this coming Wednesday though, so I’m hoping I’ll at least have some next steps.

Week of October 12

📱 Spent a while fighting with the Shortcuts app on Monday. I opened the app to check one of my shortcuts and they were all just… gone?!?!

I tried everything I could think of: toggling iCloud sync, installing the 26.1 beta on my iPhone and iPad, even reinstalling the release version of the OS on both. No luck. I knew at least some of them were still in iCloud because occasionally one would show up and then disappear again.

Eventually I turned off iCloud sync on all devices, went and did something else, and maybe 15-30 minutes later turned it back on my Mac. Poof — there they were. Re-enabled sync on my other devices and, lo and behold, the shortcuts were back. What in the actual fuck, Apple? Sheesh.

🍎 Apple announced the M5 processor and new models of the base MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. This is the first time in many, many years that I don’t think I’m going to upgrade my iPad Pro right away.

The way I use my iPad has changed quite a bit over the past couple of years — it was basically my main computer1 from around mid-2012 until late 2023 or early 2024.

Don’t get me wrong, I still absolutely LOVE my iPad and use it every day (I’m writing this on it right now); it’s just so much faster for me to get work done on a Mac these days. That said, increased RAM is always welcome, and Wi-Fi 7 support would be a nice upgrade since I have a WiFi 7 network, but I think I’ll hold onto the M4 version a while longer.

🌅 We’ve had some pretty sunsets this week. This one is from a couple of days ago.

🎮 I’ve been playing a bunch of Battlefield 6 lately with some homies. It’s been a blast.

  1. For a long time, I really only used my Mac for Photoshop tasks and did everything else on the iPad. I eventually started using my Mac for more work tasks after Panic killed off Diet Coda/Coda for iOS/Code Editor. Man, I’d llllooooooovvvvvveeeeeeee to have a current version of it back (or a “lite” version of Nova for iPadOS) 🥹 ↩︎
