Getting Old Still Sucks (Again)

Continuing on from last fall’s bunch of medical bullshit, I had a 6-month follow-up CT today that Cardio & Thoracic surgery ordered back at the end of October. I haven’t heard anything from any of my doctors yet, but I got the results back this afternoon.

Nothing new with the ribs – same problems as before. What’s new is they’re now trying to call the extended gap between my 7th & 8th rib (coincidentally, the exact ribs I broke and where my lung hemorrhages out) a “congenital variant.” Congenital variant my ass – my lung didn’t do that before I broke the ribs. I’m not Ben fucking Matlock1, but it’s hard to believe those two things aren’t related. But what the hell do I know, right?2

The kidney stone is still there and it’s still not blocking anything, so we will continue to leave it be for now. Apparently there are also some gall stones too, but those aren’t blocking anything either so they’re low priority.

One notable change since the fall – and I don’t think I wrote about this back then – is that when I had the CT that Urology ordered for the kidney stone, they also found a 2.1cm mass on my adrenal gland. It wasn’t considered a big deal since 95%-ish of adrenal gland masses are benign. Today’s results show it’s grown by 0.7cm to 2.8cm since the end of October. That seems like… a lot? I don’t know though, so I’m waiting to hear from my urologist before I freak out too much. I was supposed to have a follow up CT for that in August, but I have a feeling she might move that up. We’ll see I guess.

Long story short, I’m still alive and kicking, still with the same problems, and still pissed off that I feel like they keep blowing off these problems with my ribs.

  1. For you kids, he was a TV lawyer.
  2. I do know that I’m pretty sure I would’ve noticed my fucking lung protruding out the side of my body before the last couple of years though.
