A week with the iPhone Air

Yesterday marked a week with the iPhone Air, and I’m still enjoying it. The form factor makes me want to use it — I find myself picking it up more often than grabbing my iPad or sitting down at my Mac. That said, here are a couple of observations from my first week with it.

My two big concerns before I switched to the Air from the iPhone 17 were the single camera and the battery life. I’m happy to report that neither has been an issue so far.

Camera

No regrets here at all. I haven’t taken a ton of photos with it, but I also haven’t found myself wanting the ultra wide or telephoto lens with the ones I did shoot. We’ll see if that holds true over time, but I think it’s going to be fine.

Battery

I’ve had no battery life issues at all. The battery percentage at the end of the day is about the same1 as I was seeing with the 16 Pro and the 17 before I got the Air.

Everything else

Having one speaker has been fine. I’m not an audiophile by any stretch, and except for some videos here and there, I don’t typically listen to anything on my phone without using my AirPods or having it connected to my car.

I still hate the bump2, and I hate how the phone wobbles when sitting on a desk or table, but that’s annoyed me for years and not something that would prevent me from using the phone.

I’m still not convinced the color I got is “Sky Blue” 😂 The damn thing looks white unless you’re under very bright fluorescent lights.

One last thing I’ve noticed is that it definitely gets… warm… after using it for a while. I wouldn’t say it’s any worse than the 16 Pro was though3.

Overall though, I’m extremely happy I switched to the Air. I really liked the 17, but don’t miss it at all. That probably says everything you need to know.

  1. It’s typically somewhere between 30% and 50%, depending on what I’m doing. ↩︎

  2. Sorry, “plateau” 🙄 ↩︎

  3. That phone got hot as hell in my experience. ↩︎
