Earlier today, Alexandra posted the blog question challenge, and I thought it sounded kind of fun, so I’m doing it too.
Q: Why did you make a blog in the first place?
The first blog I worked on was for an ISP that I worked at in the mid-90s. It was a little perl script I wrote that we used to post news updates. My first personal blog was probably around the 1998-1999 timeframe.
Q: Why did you choose your platform? (Blogger/Wordpress/Bear Blog/Pika)
I used to have a horrible habit of posting and then just letting it fester until I got another bug up my ass about something a year or two later. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Last year I saw a bunch of omg.lolers started to use Pika, so I figured I’d start fresh and give it a whirl. While I love their platform, there was some stuff I wanted more control over, so I spun up a Digital Ocean droplet and wrote my own static site generator 😬
Q: Have you blogged on other platforms before?
Yep, a bunch, and I always seem to end up back on my own thing 🤷♂
Q: Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?
I write almost all of my posts in Textastic on my iPad or, occasionally, on my iPhone. Sometimes I’ll use the notes app if I’m already in there, but these days almost everything happens in Textastic.
Q: When do you feel most inspired to write?
Unfortunately it’s usually at like 1 AM when I should be sleeping 😂
Q: Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
It depends. The main thing (and only thing really) that I’ve been posting lately are the weekly recaps. That’s ok though, they keep me posting and it avoids the content rot and festering I mentioned earlier. For other posts, sometimes I let them sit a bit before I post them.
Q: What’s your favourite post on your blog?
My favorite post is also my least favorite post. 16 Years.
Q: Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?
I’m always redesigning/rebuilding/tweaking things. It’s a terrible habit 😂 I just added a guestbook a couple of days ago. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
