Weekly Recap #42

Week of May 10

🏀 The Sixers got swept by the Knicks, 4-0. Game 4 was a shitshow. The Knicks hit 25 3-pointers (which ties the postseason record) and won 144-114. Sheesh. I’m not much of a fan of any of the teams left, so I don’t know how many more games I’ll actually watch until the Finals start.

🔵 Indigo, a new app for Mastodon and Bluesky, launched this week. I signed up for a monthly subscription to give it a whirl. I’m enjoying it so far, but I only use Mastodon, so I don’t have any opinions on the Bluesky bits. I guess we’ll see how the rest of the month goes before I make a decision to keep it/replace Ivory.

🎮 Battlefield 6 Season 3 dropped this week and I decided to give it another shot and jump back in. The new map is pretty fun, but apart from that it’s the same old shit. I love the Battlefield series overall (it and Fallout are my two favorites), but I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time getting into this one compared to the previous titles. Tbh, I think it’s a combination of the smaller maps, too many vehicles, and feeling too similar to Call of Duty. The roadmap looks like they’re finally listening to the players though, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

😩 I’m so tired and burned out on tech and AI. I’m not against AI – it has its uses and can make some tasks easier, but it is NOT a solution for every problem, and the amount of time it gets things wrong or goes in circles is kind of mind blowing. Anyway… rant over, I’m just mentally exhausted and particularly cranky right now.

🎉 We spent a gorgeous Saturday afternoon noon over at Melissa’s aunt’s house for her cousin’s college graduation party. It was nice to see everyone and spend the day out in the sun.

Wes Cook and The Incredible McDonald’s Mural

Cabel Sasser from Panic gave a talk about this a while back at XOXO12 and finally wrote up a blog post about the whole experience. What an amazingly awesome story.

Violence by We$tphal

I dunno why, but I’m completely addicted to this song and can’t stop listening to it. Damn earworm for sure.

AI layoffs are here. This is how you keep your job.

Tell them that somebody cared

Sebastian wrote this a couple of months ago, but I just saw it was boosted again recently on Mastodon and it caught my attention. I love this idea and need to start doing it regularly.

  1. I remember watching a video of the talk shortly after he gave it.

  2. The video is available at the top of his post.
