A week or two ago, I tried to submit the site’s sitemap.xml file in the Google Search Console (GSC). I was able to do so, but GSC has a status of “Couldn’t fetch”:
If I click into the sitemap, it shows a “Sitemap could not be read” error:
If I use the URL inspector and check the sitemap URL, it’s found, but when I click the Test Live URL button, I get an error popup that says “Something went wrong”:
The sitemap can be accessed in a browser and via curl with no problems. Nothing in robots.txt is blocking it. This happened when the site was still on Pika, and it still happens since moving to Pagecord.
I’ve never had this problem before on any site I’ve run and submitted in search console, and I have no idea how to fix it. I did submit feedback in GSC explaining what was happening and asked for help, but I’ll be surprised if I hear anything back.
So, my question to you, dear Internet person: Have you ever run into this before? If you did, were you able to fix it, and how did you do it? If you have a solution, please send me a message!
